Be an Encourager!

Encouragement is energy! When you encourage someone you energize them. What you are actually saying is, “I believe in you.” To be an encourager you have to see the best in people and maybe you have to do that even when it’s hard to find. My last post was on being a person of excellence and doing things with excellence and purpose. Therefore, I would have to say, I am a results-oriented type person. In reality, sometimes results are not like we hoped, whether it’s with a team member, family member, spouse, or with ourselves. We have a choice and there’s only two, really: 1. be an encourager OR 2. Be a discourager. If we neglect to encourage then we are discouraging. We all love encouragement! So if we like to receive it we have to become intentional to give it, even if it does not come naturally to us. How?
- Stop. Don’t take acceptable work for granted. Stop and take time to say, “thank you” or “good job”.
- Personalize it. What motivates one may demotivate another.
- Write it. A handwritten note is usually always kept and allows a person to return to it.
- Calendar it. If it does not come naturally to you, set yourself reminders to write a note or seek out an individual.
- Think about it. Look for things that you can encourage people with. It can even be simple things that often go unnoticed, just act on it.
Who doesn’t want to be encouraged? We love it and so do others so JUST DO IT!
