I Want To Do Small Things For God

It’s interesting how your prayers can change. As I spend increasingly more time in God’s Word and allow Him to speak to me, He changes my prayers. Actually, He’s changing me; my heart. For some time, I would pray, “God, I want to do BIG things for You!” I now realize this was a safe prayer. Because let’s just face it, for any of us to do BIG things for God, He will have to do most if not all of the work in order for it to be God-Size-BIG. The uncomfortable prayer is, “God, I want to do small things for You.” In doing small things, things that God has already equipped us for, we make an impact that can accumulate. It may be that we can make a difference to someone who may not be as far along in their spiritual journey by listening, encouraging, or teaching, or it may be we need to step out of our comfort zone to DO something that we may not have ever done before but should be doing. It could be as simple as stopping and talking with someone even though we have an appointment. It could be sending a note of encouragement. It could even be as “small” as a smile. Small things are those “daily” opportunities to have an impact for God and the kingdom. Doing the small things requires us to seize those opportunities God gives us every day and several times a day, to add value to others.
I’m going to do something small for God today, will you join me?
