“God loved the world so much that

He gave His only Son.”

John 3:16, GNT

This weekend we celebrate that Jesus is born!  Drawing from Luke 1:26-2:18, we bring focus to the moment in history when Jesus entered the world as a baby boy.  The perfect gift to humanity.

As you celebrate Christmas this week, Create a Rhythm by taking  time to read Luke 2:1-18 aloud.  Your preschooler may not understand all that you read.  But the tradition of recounting this moment in history as you celebrate Christmas can become a rich memory of faith and family.

Elementary (K-3rd grade)

This week, we’re discovering why we should show compassion to others.  Since God showed His love (1 John 4:9-12), we should also love each other.  It’s God’s love in us that gives us the passion, energy, and creativity to do somethign about someone else’s need.

God showed the world His love.

How will you show the world?

When Jesus was born into the world, God’s love met our needs.  So now, we serve others because it’s what God modeled and did for us.

“God loved the world so much that he gave his one and only Son.

Anyone who believes in him will not dies but will have eternal life.” John 3:16, NIrV

Showing others God’s love is not just the right thing to do, it’s what God calls us to do.  This week, Create a Rhythm, by finding ways to show others God’s love.  Maybe you can visit a nursing home to play checkers with the residence, or take lunch to the elderly, or deliver cookies to someone that just needs a ‘pick me up’.

Immanuel:  A New Kind of Christmas

God is with us and within us.  He is as close to us as our breath.  Just like breathing air into a balloon, God breathes His spirit into us.  In Acts 2, we see a group of Jesus’ closest friends huddled in a room unsure of what should happen next.  All they knew to do was gather together and pray.

But then they hear a sound like rushing wind or a deep breath.  This is the new kind of Christmas that continues today.  This is God’s spirit poured out on God’s people.  Where is God?  God is with us (Immanuel) and God is within us, as close as our very breath.  The Spirit of God continues to empower the church today, inviting us to remember this new kind of Christmas every day and to share it with others.

As you experience Christmas this week, Make It Personal, by asking yourself, “How is the Holy Spirit leading me to share Christ with others?”
