Tricks and Treats: Candyland

Getting Started

Main Idea: In life, there’s more to winning than just playing the game.

Discussion Starter: What is your favorite board game?

Introduction: In life, it can feel like you’re losing sometimes—especially if you are not sure of the next move or how to win. Winning means trusting God no matter what card you draw.

Encounter God

Primary Scriptures: Exodus 2:5-6, Exodus 2:11-12, Exodus 12:31, Numbers 13:31-33

Discussion Questions:

  1. Have you ever felt like the deck was stacked against you?
  2. How easy or hard is it for you to move when you know God wants you to do something? How regularly do you feel like God is calling you to move or do something?
  3. Read Numbers 13:31  The spies lost sight of God’s promise to give them the Promised Land when they encountered adversity. When life seems too much, what promises of God are easy for you to forget? How can you encourage one another to hold fast to God’s promises?
  4. Has there been a time when you felt like you did what God wanted you to do but, at the time, it didn’t seem to work out? What did God teach you through that experience?

Discovery Bible Method:
For deeper study, as an alternative to the questions above, read Numbers 13:30 and use the Discovery Bible Method to explore the passage.

Embrace Others

Suggestion: Consider breaking the group into twos or threes for this section.

Read Exodus 3:16-17  God gave Moses a calling and a promise. Discuss the calling and promise God has given to you and your group.

Engage the World Around Us

Engaging at Faith Promise: With Heart for the Harvest approaching, how can you and your group serve or engage at your campus or the online campus?

Engaging in Community and the World: This week’s ministry partner is the Boys and Girls Club of the Tennessee Valley. How can your group support or partner with this organization?

Expand God’s Kingdom

Is there someone you know who is pursuing God, but feels stuck or unsure of their next move? How does God want you to walk alongside them to either provide wisdom or guidance?

Leader’s Notes

ALL groups at Faith Promise should follow Jesus Christ and lead others to do the same. Below are the marks of a growing follower and disciple of Jesus.

– A follower of Jesus desires to encounter God through the deeper study and application of God’s Word.

– A follower of Jesus embraces people and values relationships on a deeper level so everyone can grow together.

– A follower of Jesus engages and serves the world around them and in their community, through local partners or God-directed opportunities.

– A follower of Jesus expands God’s Kingdom through development and multiplication of disciple-makers, possibly to lead more groups at Faith Promise.
