Today, some people think of the church as a powerless institution made of ancient traditions and stuffy buildings. But the church is the community of God’s people. It’s filled with the power of the Holy Spirit. And it has as much to say to the world today as it did two thousand years ago. read more

It was a warm summer night in a land far, far away. The language is different; I don’t understand much. There are people around, they have come to eat, I think. Some I know and some I don’t. The ones I know somehow become even more dear to me. And those I don’t somehow seem familiar. I think it is the look in their eyes… they are searching for something. So they come, to find hope I think. As they eat they smile, they don’t say much but we understand each other. They seem to know the only requirement is to simply come, sit, and accept the gift of an evening meal. Nothing more.
On a warm summer night in Lisbon a group of Christians from a church in East Tennessee join a group of Christians who live in Portugal to feed the homeless. Together we are the body of Jesus, the expression of love and grace in a world in need. I am the lucky one that evening… read more

I want to introduce you to one of my favorite people in the whole world. I haven’t known him very long – only a couple of months, but I really connect with him. We’ve been hanging out on Fridays. He has a very unique personality, he is pretty quiet, unless he gets mad and then you know it. When he comes into a room, he owns it. When we are together it is like I am the only person in the world. He listens but I’m not sure he really understands me, but that’s ok. He’s playful and really smart. I’m not sure if he is a Christian yet, but I am confident he knows Jesus, maybe better than I do. My family loves him too. He has been coming over for dinner on Sunday evenings with us, he really fits in well. read more

So I ran across this article I had to share with you. Especially after our series on compassion last month, I thought this article really hit home. It got me thinking about the simple life. Maybe it’s just me, but doesn’t it seem like it’s hard to get to the really important things in life. Is the urgent always pulling on you for attention?  I wonder how much the stuff we have drives the decisions we make. Hope you enjoy the article and look forward to living the life… read more
